Stuff

I've finally found a home for my stuff!

When I moved to the new apartment, I unpacked most of my stuff and found a place for it. There were a lot of things I just piled into the office and my bedroom so I could just have them out of the way. Well now, I've finally put all that stuff somewhere. It's either in the trash, or somewhere I can find it when I need it.

All this productivity is due to the lack of cable/internet for an entire week. I actually saw the situation as somewhat humorous. We survived the hurricane, even had cable for a week or so, then the cable randomly went out. It took them a whole week to fix the problem, whatever it was. In the meantime, I drove over to my co-worker's place for internet and working.

I think Monday or Tuesday night I will post all the pictures mentioned in previous posts. I have finally sorted through them and picked out the ones that were in focus and somewhat properly exposed. Now I just need to crop them and make them a reasonable size for the Internet.

Oh, there's yet another Cat. 4 hurricane out there. Hopefully it does not hit Florida, but we won't know anything until Wednesday at the earliest.

One last thing… I was looking at a friend's journal and found a quiz that was ok so here's the result…

You are the youngest of the art forms and you have

Car Fixed!

Well, my car only needed a new battery. I'm thankful that it did not need anything more than a battery b/c that would have been yet another unplanned expense.

Other good news… It seems as though my new furniture will be delivered soon. Now I just need to figure out what to do with the old furniture. Also, it seems as though most of my friends have had their power restored and the number of people without power has gone down by quite a bit here in Orlando. Power is still out in areas with massive tree carnage and some other niceties such as phone and internet/cable service need to be restored, but the power is back.

The Orlando area is beginning to return to normal, people have piled their debris by the road, most of the traffic signals are working, more gas stations are getting power, therefore are becoming able to pump gas and the supermarkets are receiving food.

Hopefully I will soon have some pictures posted however, I've had several longer days and therefore, not enough time at the computer to crop and post my pictures.

Car Issues

I made it through the hurricane quite well, some of my other friends are awaiting the restoration of power. Nonetheless, I went to start my car today so that I could go to my boss' house to do some work on a new project and it didn't start. So now I get to find out what is wrong with the electrical system in my car.

Farewell Charlie

We weathered the Hurricane as it came down through Orlando with it's category 2 winds, and we are just fine.

Here's a timeline for those who want to know…

5:00 p.m. We head over to Kristy and Kirsten's apartment to celebrate Carrie's birthday and wait out the storm.

8:30-ish p.m. The winds pick up, and the power begins to flicker of and on. There's no point in trying to watch the Olympic opening ceremony's and play Scrabble at the same time so we just leave the TV off.

9:20-ish p.m. The power flickers out for the last time during the storm.

11:30-ish p.m. We listened to the radio and find out that Charlie left florida so we went for a walk to check out the damage. In our apartment complex some fairly new trees had blown over. Two cars were hit by trees, but they were not damaged very much. It turns out our apartments did pretty good.

At some point after our wandering through the complex, I decided to drive over to Tim's along the way there were several downed trees, but apparent major structural damage. The driving around with no power was quite odd. Areas where I could drive without the headlights now required the hi-beam headlights. It's amazing how much light we put out.

I returned to the apartment at about 3:00 a.m. and went to sleep.

8:30 a.m. We got up and had cereal for breakfast and were wondering how long the milk will last before it goes sour.

9:00 a.m. We called home to let the parents know we are OK but without power. Then then proceeded to Waterford Lakes where I knew they had power. I figured I needed some cash just in case, and we got a radio and some batteries in case we were without power for more than the day.

11:00 a.m. The power was restored. We are still waiting for the cell phone services to stabilize and I'm wondering if La-z-boy will attempt their furniture delivery.

I should have some pictures up fairly soon so you can see that things really weren't too bad this time.

Hurricane

So today there will be Hurricane Charlie, tomorrow there will be new sofas.

Everyone has been watching Charlie seeing where he will go, ect. I don't think it will be too bad here, just a lot of rain and a lot of wind, maybe some tornados, but we are not near mobile homes so we'll see if the tornado magnetism theory holds.

I really didn't do much to prepare for the storms. We put the stuff that was out side in the closet, I put gas in my car when I got back from WPB on Wednesday and we went to (gasp) Wal-Mart for some groceries.

So once the sofas come in tomorrow all I will need to do in the living area is find some sort of coffee table and end table, table lamp, a clock and some pictures for the bare walls.

a real update for once (busy)

This is a rare more personal entry.

I thought that once I graduated from college life would be easier. In someways, life is easier, I don't stress over classes and grades but, I find that I'm still really busy, and the stress of deadlines, real and self made, can more than make up for the classes and grades. Then there are life issues to be taken care of as well, I recently moved to my own apartment (sort of, my brother is renting with me) I needed to buy furniture, plus setup my home office (which still isn't finished).

Then there are weekends like this last one. On Friday, I found myself packing and preparing to leave for Clearwater. Yet again a friend of mine is getting married. As we arrived late in Clearwater, we hurried on over to the church for the wedding rehearsal, then the rehearsal dinner and finally, the bachlor party. We got back to the hotel around 2:30 a.m. Saturday. We had to get up at 9 a.m. for the wedding, which was excellent. Then the reception. I have learned that being in the wedding party doesn't end after the wedding. If your in the wedding party, it is your responsibility to help get the party started at the reception.

We had a lot of fun at the reception. Danny and Dawn will be a great couple. I'm sure they will be happy together. There was a return of the "Rowboat" at the recepetion. If I get a picture of it, I will have to post it. I think any wedding that Jason is at will not be complete without the "Rowboat."

After the reception, we paid Andrew and Monica a visit. We went to get ice cream at a historic hotel on the bay. We had a small adventure trying to figure out how to get out of the parking lot. I can't wait for everyone to return to Orlando so we can hang out.

Finally, Sunday. Today, I got up and went to church. I found out the band needed a crossover for their gig that night. I called my friend, Mike, to see if I could borrow his. I had to leave the second service early and run back to my apartment to get my key to Mike's. Then, I needed to stop at Mike's and get the crossover. By the time I got to the church it was time to load up and go to the gig. The band played well and the crowd seemed to like the worship music. Once it was over, we packed it all down and here I am writing this.

So, back to beginning. I have found that even though I've graduated from college I still find myself quite busy.

Time to get some rest…
